SERC awarded Silver Centre status from the International Association of Book-keepers

SERC has been recognised for its work in training the bookkeepers of the future after they were awarded a Silver Centre award from the International Association of Book-keepers (IAB).

The Award recognises the IAB Level 2 Payroll programme which has been run successfully by the School of Hospitality, Management, Tourism, Languages & A’Level’s and delivered by Simon Grant on the Lisburn campus.

SERC received official recognition of their status at the event, which was hosted by IAB President Fabian Hamilton MP. Representatives from SERC were presented with the award at a prestigious ceremony at the House of Commons Terrace Pavilion.

Founded in 1973, with over 10,000 members across 60 countries, the IAB is one of the most prestigious not-for-profit organisations for professional bookkeepers in the world.

“As an organisation we are committed to promoting the highest standards of competence and excellence among bookkeepers, a body of professionals who play a key role in the day-to-day management and financial health of businesses of all sizes,” said Jon Mew, Chief Executive of the IAB.

Speaking about the award, Simon Grant, lecturer at SERC said:

“SERC has exceptionally high pass rates with many of our students achieving merit or distinction in Computerised Accounts and Computerised Payroll. Our payroll courses offer students the chance to gain the very best financial qualifications – as well as lifelong skills.

“These qualifications have become a prerequisite for employment and I am happy to say the majority of our student’s secure employment because of these IAB qualifications.”

SERC principal and chief executive Ken Webb said: “We were delighted to be presented with this award. It is an important accolade as it promotes the highest standards in the profession and it reflects the hard work and professionalism of all the team, and I congratulate them on this achievement.”

The IAB is both an awarding and professional body. Today, it not only offers a host of regulated bookkeeping and business qualifications, it supports and regulates professionals on their career path.
