Recently SERC’s Downpatrick Campus welcomed Marie Curie to speak to the Training for Success Retail and Administration trainees who are currently involved in ongoing fundraising activities for the charity.

To date students have helped to raise over £300 for the charity.
Students welcomed Emma Corry, a community fundraiser for Marie Curie who presented the history of Marie Curie, what they do as well as explained how the money raised is used.
Emma explained that Marie Curie is a major UK charity for people living with any terminal illness, not just cancer, and their families. They offer expert care, guidance and support to help them get the most from the time they have left.
Marie Curie currently have nine hospices across the UK when in 2017 they helped over 50,000 people. Here in Northern Ireland, Marie Curie have a hospice centre in Belfast where they have 20 beds and provide full time care to patients. Emma said that “I would like to thank the students for the kind donations and the awareness they have raised. Any money raised will allow Marie Curie to continue to research and improve how medical treatment is given to our patients.”
Barbara McNeill, Head of School for the Training Organisation said “I believe it is very important for students to engage with their local community and raising funds for charity is a great way to do just that. The students have done extremely well and I’m happy that the students chose to raise money for Marie Curie.”
