SERC Catering Students Raise £150 for Marie Curie

11 students from the Level 3 NVQ Patisserie and Confectionery programme hosted a charity bake sale to raise money for the Marie Curie charity organisation. The students were involved in planning, producing, and managing the sale and raised £150 for the charity.

As part of their training, each Level 3 NVQ Patisserie and Confectionery student must plan and execute an event. SERC Bangor Campus student Aaron Crawford, Millisle, suggested Marie Curie for this event. He helped design the list of products, order the ingredients, and manage the rest of the class in producing the baked goods.

Aaron comments, “The reason as to why I chose Marie Curie is because my late uncle had kidney cancer and without the help and comfort of Marie Curie my uncle would have not received the care. I appreciate them for what they have done for my family, so I wanted to give them something back. I decided a bake sale seemed right to raise money for them. I could not do enough for Marie Curie for what they did for my uncle.”

Aaron continues, “The products looked and tasted amazing all thanks to my amazing team and I could not have done it without them or the support and advice of my tutor Paul Monaghan. I really think that the event was successful, and everything was done by the time the customers arrived for collection.”

Aaron concludes, “I feel overwhelmed and proud of how much that I and the team have raised, I would just also like to thank everyone who supported us and got us the amazing amount that we got! Our ideal amount was £100, and we smashed it by getting £150! So, thank you everyone so much, we appreciate it.”

Paul Monaghan, SERC Lecturer in Hospitality and Catering, comments, “The students really felt they were having a positive impact through taking part in this event and having the chance to support Marie Curie and the work they do.”
