Fergal (22) from Portaferry, is studying the Level 2 Apprenticeship NI in Bricklaying at SERC’s Newtownards Campus and will be competing in the Bricklaying category of the regional finals. Fergal saw success in the first year of his apprenticeship in the 2026 Super Trowel Series, in which he, supported by his Hod Carrier and fellow student, Peter Russell, delivered an outstanding performance laying an impressive 107 bricks and scored 87 points during the competition. The Super Trowel Series took place in Southern Regional College in Newry, the same location of the Skillbuild Regional Finals in which Fergal hopes to find even greater success this month.
David (21) from Saintfield, is studying the Level 3 Apprenticeship NI in Plastering at SERC’s Lisburn Campus and will be competing in the plastering category of the regional finals. David previously battled his way to the SkillBuild UK Finals for plastering in Milton Keynes last year and is ready to make it to the UK Finals again this year.
