Staff from the built environment team at SERC have successfully achieved their PASMA (Prefabricated Access Suppliers’ and Manufacturers’ Association) Mobile Access Tower certification following specialist training delivered by Industry Training Services.
Throughout the course, staff developed a comprehensive understanding of key areas including legislation and guidance relating to working at height, the PASMA Code of Practice, product standards for mobile access towers, fall protection measures, tower inspection procedures, and hazard identification. The programme combined classroom learning with extensive practical activities, allowing delegates to apply their knowledge in realistic workplace scenarios. Assessment included both practical and theory-based elements to ensure competence across all aspects of mobile access tower use.
On successful completion of the course, participants were awarded a PASMA Photocard and Certificate, valid for five years, demonstrating their competence in the safe use of mobile access towers and compliance with current Work at Height Regulations.
Terry Holland, Curriculum Manager, School of Built Environment, said, “The professional development will directly benefit teaching and learning within SERC's built environment curriculum. Mobile access towers and scaffolding systems feature prominently across a range of construction programmes, and the enhanced knowledge gained by staff will help ensure students receive high-quality, up-to-date instruction aligned with current industry standards."
He added, “The achievement reflects the built environment team's commitment to continuous professional development and supporting excellence in construction education. By continually updating their industry knowledge and technical expertise, staff are helping to ensure our learners gain the practical experience and confidence needed to work safely and effectively in the modern construction industry.”
