SERC recently held an employer engagement event in partnership with Invest NI for Access to Higher Education learners across SERC Downpatrick and Newcastle Campuses.

At the event, students were able to engage directly with several local NI businesses from a range of industries, who shared their knowledge and perspectives on current and future workforce skills requirements.

Students also took part in a workshop designed to help them identify their relevant experiences, strengths and transferable skills, which resulted in the creation of a personalised ‘skills passport’ for use in preparing for job interviews.

Additionally, a panel discussion took place at the event, facilitated by Invest NI and Ciara Douglas, owner of Making Memories for You in Downpatrick.  The panel focused on the skills required in business and employment. Ciara also gave an inspiring presentation on her personal journey of launching her own business and the challenges she encountered, along with valuable insights and knowledge into recognising skills and adapting to a variety of situations.
