Students completing Level 2 and Level 3 Art and Design and the Foundation Diploma in Art and Design at SERC’s Downpatrick Campus welcomed visitors, family and friends to their end of year exhibition recently.
There was a definite buzz on opening night as visitors browsed the art on display from the talented students which included oil paintings, water colours, pastels, textiles, ceramics, photography and mixed media sculptures.
The students took time to talk to visitors about the inspiration for their individual pieces, which included local landscapes, media headlines and popular culture.
Charles Walsh, Art Lecturer said, “Our end of year exhibition is the culmination of a years’ work for many of the students. We are absolutely delighted with the visual excitement and the quality of the work on display. When you see all the work together, as an exhibition, it is a truly impressive sight they can all be proud of - I certainly am! We were thrilled that so many of the students’ family and friends were able to join us for the opening of the exhibition.”
Charles concluded, “Our end our year exhibition marks the final stage of their course for most of the students, though some will progress to the BTEC Level 3 Foundation Diploma Art Design Media Practice here at SERC. Meanwhile, many of those successfully completing the Foundation Diploma have places to study Higher Education at art schools and at universities, including Liverpool John Moores University and Northumbria University, in the autumn.
Watch out for more photos from the exhibition which will be shared on socials shortly.
