Level 2 Traineeship in Information Technology student Ryan Robertson (18) from Lisburn, is starting his journey to become a game developer while studying at SERC.
After completing his GCSEs, Ryan thought he needed a change of scenery. He attended a SERC open evening where he chatted to the computing tutors and realised that IT was the right course area for him.
Ryan comments, “The game development work is my favourite part of the course, although I also really like the computer-aided design work we do in class. I love playing games and studying how they work – eventually I’d like to develop my own game. This course is a great step towards doing more game development work.
“On the course we also learn a lot about website and app development, as well as the essential basics of working with computers. We work with software such as Unity to create 2D games, and use coding software like PyCharm and Phoenix Code to create websites.
“After completing this course, I want to go on and do a Level 3 IT course at SERC. Eventually, I’d like to go to university to study Computer Science, which will help me even more in developing video games.” Ryan concludes, “I would recommend my course! It has been a great introduction to working with computers and gives you a good start to studying higher level courses.”
