Over 50 apprentices and trainees specialising in fabrication, welding, and machining from across South Eastern Regional College (SERC) took part in the annual Intercampus Engineering Competition at Lisburn Campus recently.
Competing for podium places, and glory for their base campus, the winning apprentices had the added incentive of scooping hundreds of pounds worth of equipment and work gear, generously donated by Modern Machinery Supplies, with representative Dean Williams in attendance.
In Machining, Nathanael Davidson (Kells) lifted first place, Aaron Cooke (Comber) took second place, and Shannon Hancock (Belfast) lifted third place. All are completing Level 3 Apprenticeship NI in Engineering (Manufacturing) from Bangor Campus.
In Fabrication, first place went to Jaime Louison (Lisburn) from Lisburn Campus, Jack Vance (Castlewellan) from Downpatrick Campus, took second place, and third place went to Rueben McKenning (Lisburn), also Lisburn Campus. All are completing Level 2 Apprenticeship NI in Engineering (Manufacturing).
In Welding, first place went to Jonny Mitchell (Banbridge), second place to Charlie Hall (Crumlin) and Josh McKeown (Castlewellan) took third place. They are all completing Level 3 Apprenticeship NI in Engineering and based at SERC’s Professional Skills Centre at Dundrod.
Ivan Kelly, SERC Engineering Lecturer said, “The annual Intercampus Engineering Competition is an exciting opportunity for our apprentices to test their skills against their peers. We witnessed the usual competitive spirit and good-natured camaraderie as the students met with their counterparts from across the different disciplines and campuses.
“Congratulations to all the trainees and apprentices who took part and especially those who secured podium places along with prizes to aid their practical training.”
