Creative media students on stage at Media Showcase
Harvey Neale, Oran Toland and Caleb Wilson

Students from South Eastern Regional College (SERC) took centre stage at an inspiring end-of-year Media Showcase, celebrating their outstanding work and creative talents as they prepare for further studies and employment in the creative industries.

The showcase marked the first time that both further education and higher education cohorts at SERC’s Bangor Campus collaborated to present their work.  The result was a vibrant and dynamic exhibition of creativity, with projects -  spanning short films, documentaries, music videos, animation and motion graphics – shared on the big screen. The quality, creativity and professional standard of the work impressed the enthusiastic audience of friends, family, collaborators, actors and supporters who had contributed to the students’ productions, creating a celebratory atmosphere and genuine appreciation of the dedication and talent behind each piece.

The celebration recognised Harvey Neale (22, from Bangor), Oran Toland (20, from Belfast) and Caleb Wilson (20, from Millisle) who were announced winners in the Level 3 Creative Media Extended Diploma second-year music video competition, delivered in partnership with The Freebooter Lounge record label.  Besides picking up a range of prizes including vinyl albums, CDs, branded T-shirts and gift vouchers, the trio’s music videos will be promoted across The Freebooter Lounge’s website and media platforms, offering valuable industry exposure.

Praising the students’ achievements, Creative Media Lecturer, Nik Thomas said, “Today was a special moment and the students should be extremely proud of themselves. The range of skills and talent on show was truly inspiring for everyone, including myself. The creative media team at SERC work hard to share skills and techniques with the students, but we also give them creative freedom to explore and create something they are invested in and can be proud of for their final projects. We want our students to be happy and confident when they share their work and that is exactly what we all enjoyed at this amazing showcase.”
