Students from the VTCT Skills Level 4 Diploma in Reflexology for the Complementary Therapist course participated in a workshop delivered in SERC by Patricia McDaniels, Lead Therapist at Daisy Lodge. Patricia guided the students through a series of insightful topics, which included an overview of the work Daisy Lodge does, cancer awareness, adapting reflexology techniques and practical adaption work. The workshop also highlighted volunteering opportunities available at Daisy Lodge and through Cancer Fund for Children, showing how complementary therapies can make an impact to the wellbeing of children and families through therapeutic support, respite services, and community‑based programmes.

The learning experience continued the following week after the workshop, when students were invited to Daisy Lodge itself in Newcastle for a guided tour of the facility, an in‑depth discussion on the work Daisy Lodge does, and afternoon tea. The visit offered students a deeper appreciation of the nurturing environment and the holistic care offered to families affected by cancer.

Lecturer in Complimentary Therapies Sancha Dicks comments, “Overall, the two‑week experience was informative, inspiring, and deeply meaningful to the students. The information Daisy Lodge has given the students directly supports their unit on adapting techniques for patients going through cancer, helping the students gain invaluable first‑hand knowledge from experienced therapeutic centre staff working with cancer patients. A big thank you to Daisy Lodge for all their work with us.”
