SERC has opened a Relaxation Room for students at the College’s Newcastle Campus, funded by the Open College Network NI (OCN).
SERC Newcastle Campus, has become a hub for adult returners to education with most students enrolled on Restart Education or the Level 3 Access Diploma in Foundation Studies, often referred to as ‘Access’.
Tommy Martin, Principal & Chief Executive at SERC said, “We are delighted to have this new Relaxation Room for our adult returner students. “We understand that coming back to education is challenging. Students are juggling their learning on campus with all the demands of everyday life outside the college. This new resource allows our students to take a quiet moment before they start each day or between classes in order to prepare themselves, mentally and physically for the day ahead.”
Funded by OCN, the Relaxation Room, has comfortable furnishings, weighted blankets, refreshments, a SAD lamp and features photography artwork of the natural environment, produced by SERC student Wayne Thompson.
Newcastle Campus also has a creche, Little SERC, to help parents who enrol on a course in Newcastle and need access to childcare. It provides professional care, safe and stimulating play and enjoyable learning for children from three months old to school age and after-school care for children in P1 and P2.
