Roger Raises £810 for Autism NI at Great North Run Roger Duncan, Lead Designated Safeguarding Officer, Pastoral Care and Campus Manager at SERC's Lisburn Campus, has successfully completed the 2026 Great North Run while raising an impressive £810 for Autism NI.
Roger first took part in the iconic half marathon in 2022 and was determined to return to improve on his previous performance. After securing a place through the ballot, he began training for this year's event and decided to use the challenge as an opportunity to support a cause close to his heart.
Taking to the start line on 13 September alongside 63,000 runners, Roger made his way through Newcastle, Gateshead and on to the famous finish at South Shields. Reflecting on the experience, he praised the incredible atmosphere and support from spectators throughout the course.
Autism NI, which Roger has supported for almost 20 years, was chosen as the beneficiary of his fundraising efforts. Thanks to the generosity of family, friends and supporters, he raised £810, excluding Gift Aid, for the charity.
Speaking after the event, Roger said: "I have been genuinely overwhelmed by the kindness shown to me, especially at a time when many people are facing financial pressures of their own. Thank you to everyone who donated, sponsored, encouraged and supported me along the way. Your generosity has made a real difference."
As well as reaching his fundraising target, Roger achieved the goal that inspired his return to the race, beating his 2022 Great North Run time by more than 12 minutes.
