Terri Woods

Teri Woods (16), from Portadown, is currently doing the Level 2 Traineeship NI in Animal Care at SERC’s Lisburn Campus.

Teri said, “My careers advisor at Craigavon Senior High School mentioned SERC when I expressed an interest in doing something around animal care after my GCSEs. I was so keen to get onto the course I applied as soon as the applications opened.”

She added, “I came along to an open evening with my mum to see the College and to find out a bit more about the course.   My mum thought the course was great too – I think she was sorry she wasn’t signing up for it herself.   It was great to see the facilities and to find out about the progression routes in SERC and beyond.   I think this was one of the things that helped me decide to come to SERC, as I knew there was progression beyond the Level 2 and that I would be able to continue here.   I hope to go on to do the Level 3 in Animal Management and then go onto higher education.”

Teri said, “I really love the practical part of the course and getting hands on with the animals. I have a pet gecko, so I am learning all about him at home too.   The animal handling experience is really important for moving on.”

Speaking about her ambitions Terri concluded, “I don’t mind where I am employed as long as I get to work with animals, but I suppose I would like to work in a rescue centre, or somewhere where I can help rehabilitate animals.”
