Representatives from the Electrical Training Trust (ETT) visited SERC’s Newtownards Campus to deliver 94 free isolation lock-off kits for all our first-year electrical apprentices.
The kits were supplied by ETT in partnership with Electrical Safety First. The initiative stems from a key finding in ETT’s Ending Shock Silence report, which identified a widespread failure to implement proper safe isolation procedures – a vital step in preventing electric shock incidences.
Steven Donnelly, Lecturer in Electrical Installation said, “We were delighted to welcome Charlotte Bamber, Chief Executive of ETT and Aaron McDonald, Assessor Trainer, to SERC’s Newtownards Campus to accept delivery of the kits for our first-year electrical apprentices.
“Safe working practices are essential in every trade, and health and safety form a large part of the electrical apprenticeship here at SERC. We welcome this initiative, which we hope will make a positive and lasting impact on those who are taking their first steps into the electrical industry. The safe isolation lock-off kits are a valuable resource designed to keep our apprentice electricians safe. Working with electricity is literally a life and death risk almost every day. These safe isolation kits will ensure the next generation of electricians go to work with one of the most important tools they will ever use.”
