Six level 3 Apprenticeship NI in Fire and Security Systems apprentices from South Eastern Regional College (SERC) are on their way to Birmingham this week, to compete in the WorldSkills UK national qualifiers being held at the Security Event 2025 at the NEC.

The SERC apprentices will be competing against other apprentices from colleges across the UK for a chance to rech the WorldSkills UK National Finals. The SERC apprentices are Rebecca Wilson (18), from Dromore, employed by Digital Fire Security, Conall Hanna (21), from Lisburn, employed by Radio Contact, Luke Wilson (21), from Newtownabbey, employed by Atlas World, Zeki Kaya (19), from Newtownards, employed by Specialised Fire and Security, Alex Punyer (19), from Bangor, employed by Johnston Controls, and Owen Brady (20), from Lisburn, employed by Beacon Fire and Security.

Robin Hamill, SERC Lecturer in Fire and Security Systems, said “SERC is absolutely delighted to have six apprentices representing their employers and the college in this prestigious competition. The apprentices had a fantastic time competing at the SERC intercampus competition in January. These apprentices rank among the best students and apprentices in Northern Ireland, and this competition will further showcase their skills and experience in this specialist area in the face of strong competition.

“An apprenticeship is a three-way partnership between the college, the apprentice and of course, the employer, and we would like to thank each of the apprentice's employers for their continued support and encouragement to each of the apprentices who will represent their businesses, SERC and indeed, Northern Ireland.”

The national qualifiers will take place from 8 to 10 April, where 12 apprentices will be selected to go forward to the WorldSkills UK National Finals, which take place in Cardiff in November.
