SERC Dance Student Represents NI in LA Dance Festival 2025

SERC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Performing Arts Practice (Dance) student Lexie Galbraith represented team Northern Ireland at the Dance Excellence Festival 2025, which took place in Los Angeles, USA in April.  

Dance Excellence is a USA based dance festival which hosts talent from 31 countries. Dance studios from across the world are selected to attend by way of their dedication to dance, performance and arts education, making it a prestigious event for those who receive the initiation to attend. Those invited to the event undergo training from top industry master teachers and choreographers, have opportunities to sightsee in Los Angeles, including a trip to Universal Studios Hollywood, and have the chance to perform at a dance showcase and win awards for their performances. 

Lexie Galbraith (18, Lisburn), who studies at SERC Bangor campus, was selected to attend the event as part of Elite Team NI, which was made up of dancers attached to dance studios from across NI, including Lexie’s dance studio, Active Dansa, based in Lisburn.  

During the festival, Lexie and the rest of the NI team won several awards for their performances. DEX management gave the team a Global Arts Award for attending the festival and to recognise the hard work, passion and dedication of the NI team. At the DEX Showcase on the Friday morning of the festival, Lexie and the NI team performed a production number called ‘Landscape of Light’, and the judges awarded the team with the DEX Showcase Award of Excellence - the highest standard they could award. The team also had the opportunity to perform a jazz routine at Universal Studios’ Hollywood City Walk for the public, which won them the Universal Star Award.  

On her experience in LA, Lexie says, “I honestly enjoyed the experience so much -the trip of a lifetime. It was amazing getting to learn from different choreographers and connect with dancers from all over the world. My favourite part was visiting Universal Studios and performing on stage to an audience. All the awards we won are the icing on the cake and a fantastic end to the week. Overall, it was such a valuable experience and one I'll never forget!”
