Staff from South Eastern Regional College (SERC) recently delivered a six-week online English Language course for staff and students at Lahore Garrison University (LGU), Pakistan.

Andrew Megarry,  International Development Manager at SERC said, “SERC have developed a good relationship with Lahore Garrison University (LGU) over the past year following the signing of our memorandum of understanding which allows the two organisations to work in partnership to develop combined programmes, staff exchange schemes and explore new areas of opportunities and commercial ventures. LGU wanted to expand the curriculum of English Language courses available to their students and SERC was able to design and develop a bespoke programme to compliment the courses already available to their students.

He added, “The International Department at SERC had developed an English Language Summer School which was scheduled for the summer but with international travel restrictions due to Covid-19, we quickly adapted to delivering an online programme in September.

“Tutors, Scott Nicholson and Sharon Ishizaki, developed an excellent programme based on LGU’s learning objectives and were able to build a great rapport with staff and students despite the challenges of online learning.  A total of 15 students and 15 teaching staff from LGU successfully completed the course, with 100% of the candidates on the English Language Programme saying they would speak highly of SERC. One student said, “I learnt to better communicate and with more confidence.   I was also able to improve on some of the little things when speaking, writing and presenting that are often overlooked.”

Andrew concluded, “SERC ran a similar programme with National Institute of Technology, Akita College, Japan in July 2020 and plan to run similar programmes with other partner institutions in the future.”
