Mental Health is the foundation for maintaining and improving overall health and wellbeing. SERC recognises this and has trained staff in Mental Health First Aid to become Mental Health First Aiders.
Mental Health is the help provided to an individual who is developing a mental health problem or who is in a mental health crisis. The role of the Mental Health First aider is to assist the staff and students until appropriate professional treatment is received or until the crisis resolves.
The aims of MHFA are:
- To preserve life where a person may be a danger to themselves or others.
- To provide help to prevent the mental health problem becoming more serious.
- To promote the recovery of good mental health
- To provide comfort to a person experiencing mental health problem and will signpost to the appropriate help and support services
