As part of their commitment to working with the local community, Skills for Work Level 2 and Worklink Level 1 Catering trainees from SERC’s Lisburn Campus recently visited St Patricks Church Lisburn to provide a demonstration of their catering skills to the Forever Young Club.

Skills for Work and Worklink programme prepares students with the skills required for the world of work. The courses provide valuable high-quality work experience as well as gaining qualifications, skills and confidence that employers are looking for.
The Forever Young Club was setup for retired ladies to get out of the house, meet new people, learn new skills and stay lively within their community.
Through the Training for Success (TFS) Projects and under the direction of Technical Support OfficerRosie McMullan, the students cooked up two delicious healthy main course dishes using local mince steak and chicken products.
The audience also picked up healthy eating tips as well as helpful tips on how to correctly prepare and chop vegetables.
Helen Doran on behalf of the Forever Young Club said: “This event was very well organized and executed. The students were all very well behaved and eager to learn and showed great respect for the Tutor and supporters. They all followed their instructions and helped with food preparation and service AND they cleaned up afterwards. The food was delicious and the ladies in our club loved it. Thank you!”
Barbara McNeill, Head of School for the Training Organisation said “all the students did extremely well and where really enthusiastic throughout the demonstration. They displayed some great culinary skills and produced some very tasty dishes.”
