SERC welcome Spanish students to learn english

SERC recently hosted eleven Spanish students in partnership with the International Summer School at the Bangor Campus recently for three weeks.  

The eleven students originated from various regions across Spain, including Gran Canaria, Mallorca, Fuerteventura, and Tenerife and stayed with families in Bangor during their visit to gain a new cultural experience and practice their English skills.  

The aim of the programme, funded by the students’ families, was to develop general and academic English language skills whilst integrating all-important soft skills training which will enhance the employability of the students. The students also improved their skills in preparation for future study such as presentation skills, interview skills and written language skills.  

While the visiting students worked hard throughout their stay, they also got to enjoy Bangor, the historic Ulster Museum and shopping trips to Belfast with SERC staff. Additionally, they also travelled to the north coast, explored the Folk and Transport Museums and discovered the Giant’s Causeway with local families.  

Head of SERCs International School of English, Natalie Le Seelleur said, “The response from the Spanish students was very positive and the skills that they have developed will help to support their learning of English, and enhance their academic development in their own native language.”

There is a variety of international programmes to avail of at SERC and programmes like the International Summer School that these Spanish students were involved in which supplies a platform to boost skills in English, as well as gain qualifications in other subjects.
