Travel and Tourism students are ‘Tourism Proud’

Travel and Tourism students from SERC’s Downpatrick campus have been taking part in the ‘Live here Love here’ volunteering campaign where they headed to Tyrella Beach on the 10 May to carry out a beach clean-up.

The ‘Live here Love here’ campaign is a positive, people powered campaign focused on improving our local environment and building a sense of civic pride in our local communities.  

Litter sits around towns, countryside, beaches and parks and through the ‘Live here Love here’ campaign, groups and individuals have been carrying out a clean-up.  

The students alongside the Men’s Shed Kilough, undertook a beach clean-up where they collected a staggering 24 bags of rubbish over the course of the day. 

The campaign was kindly sponsored by Lidl and Wrap and Roll, Downpatrick who provided food, snacks and refreshments for the volunteers throughout the day.  

Colum Toner, Lecturer in Travel and Tourism Operation said that “I believe it is very important for students to engage with their local community and carrying out the beech clean shows them how this effort can reduce the litter that plagues our shoreline. The students have done extremely well, and their volunteering efforts should be commended.”
