SERC recently trialled their Electric Vehicle (EV) pilot course for advanced diagnostic and training specialists at the college’s Downpatrick Campus.

Alan Kerr, Training and Innovation Consultant (Motor Vehicle) at SERC said, “This two-day pilot course is in response to feedback from students who have completed the IMI Level 4 Certificate in Advanced Automotive Studies at the college.”

He added, “As the use of EVs increases, it is important that we have skilled technicians able to meet the demand for servicing these vehicles.   The purpose of this course is to provide the qualified EV technician with a set of specifically tailored EV fault situations so that they can carry out diagnosis and rectification within a safe environment. This will allow them to continue to develop the skills and knowledge essential to prepare modern EVs.

“As the technology of the vehicle industry develops, it is essential that the training and qualifications available keep pace, so EV technicians can achieve the up-to-date skills necessary to grow with the industry.”

SERC plans to offer a bespoke Electric Vehicle Diagnostic and Repair Methods course from September designed to be a largely practical hands-on follow on from the IMI Level 4 Award in the Diagnosis, Testing and Repair of Electric/Hybrid Vehicles and Components.
