The event brought together representatives from public bodies across Northern Ireland, including local councils, education, health, emergency services, and key public service providers, to mark the successful completion of the first reporting cycles under the Climate Change (Reporting Bodies) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2024.

Under the Regulations, specified public bodies are required to submit climate change reports to DAERA outlining their greenhouse gas emissions, mitigation actions they are taking to reduce their emissions, their climate risks and what they are doing to adapt to the impacts of climate change. All 40 specified public bodies, including SERC, met their statutory reporting obligations, with two additional organisations participating on a voluntary basis.

The event was attended by SERC Deputy Chief Executive Colin McGuckin, as well as Chris Melville, who gave a speech at the event about SERC's experience and challenges of delivering on the first sustainability and adaptation reporting rounds for the new climate change regulations. Chris says, "It was nice to be invited to speak and, overall, the event was a great experience - the process of the reporting itself was a collaborative effort between the SERC Finance and Estates Teams and we are happy with what we delivered."
