SERC has opened a new Industrial Training Centre at the College’s Downpatrick Campus.

Designed to support skills development, innovation and growth in electrical and mechatronic engineering, the Industrial Training Centre was opened by Councillor Philip Campbell,  Chair of Newry Mourne and Down District Council. At a business breakfast launch, representatives from local electrical and engineering organisations, were given a unique insight into training opportunities at the college across a spectrum of related disciplines.

Councillor Campbell said, “I am delighted to open SERC’s new Industrial Training Centre at Downpatrick Campus. This investment ensures SERC can continue to support employers who drive innovation, productivity, and growth in electrical and mechatronic engineering in the local area.”

Tommy Martin, Principal and Chief Executive, SERC said, “Engineering underpins every sector of our economy, and our new Industrial Training Centre supports learners with the knowledge and skills to succeed in high‑value roles.”

He added, “Access to specialised programmes at this dedicated centre will improve the expertise of people working in the industry, help support a cycle of innovation and product development, and boost the local economy.”

The college is an official training partner of both Siemens and Autodesk.  SERC Training Consultants are equipped to deliver a range of specialist programmes including the Siemens Mechatronic Systems Certification, Industrial 3D CAD Modelling and Electrical Upskilling Level’s 1 & 2.   The college also offers innovation support and mentoring through a range of programmes including InnovateUs funded by the Department for Economy; Innovation Vouchers funded by Invest NI and Knowledge Transfer Partnerships funded through Invest NI and Innovate UK.

The launch of the Industrial Training Centre was supported by Connected, funded by the Department for Economy, and is part of a wider programme which enables the transfer of knowledge on key industry developments.
