Six staff from South Eastern Regional College (SERC) are heading to China over the next three months to deliver a teacher exchange programme with the Early Years Department in Pingdingshan Vocational and Technical College (PVTC).

The first team of two, lecturers Gillian Auld and Tom Le Seelleur, travelled to Pingdingshan in mid-April to share their expertise and good practice on Early Childhood English and International Perspectives on Early Childhood Education.

In May, Training Consultants, Olive Watson and Elaine Baskerville, will follow up with tailored programmes on Family and Community and Children, Youth and the Digital Age.

The final duo, Diane Weatherup, Head of SERC’s Learning Academy and Sara Hope, Quality Manager (Apprenticeships and Business Training), will conclude the programme at the end of May with Developing Professional Practice and Developing Children’s Thinking Abilities and Comprehension Skills.

Elaine McKeown, Senior International Development Manager at SERC said, “This project is the next stage in our collaborative partnership with the China- Europe International Education Consulting Group (CEIECG) and Pingdingshan Vocational and Technical College. The project exposes SERC staff to a unique cultural experience and different pedagogical approaches whilst adding a new dimension to their continuous professional development portfolio. This long-term commitment will be extended to further staff and student opportunities in the future both for SERC and for our partners in China.”
