CombiGuru, which is run by commercial oven maker Unox, offers young chefs the opportunity to test their culinary skills through an engaging educational path, designed to both challenge and enrich their cooking skills and knowledge.
The first stage of the competition was a quiz challenge on the gastronomic world completed through an app. Levi secured the highest score in SERC and so has now advanced to the second stage of the competition – a trip to Unox’s headquarters in Italy for a cooking challenge. The challenge will involve Levi preparing one main course and one dessert within three hours for judges, who will mark students on baking and cooking techniques, cleanliness and organisation, ingredient selection, plating and dish taste. Levi comments, "I'm feeling excited for the competition, I definitely have the right skillset to win thanks to my course at the college; it will be a good way to showcase my skills."
If successful in the oven challenge, Levi will win a Unox oven for the college and will also progress to the third phase of the competition – an exciting one-day culinary experience in Venice. Levi, along with his tutor Friedrich Machala, will be travelling to Italy on 22 April.
