South Eastern Regional College (SERC) recently hosted its first Level 2 Electrical Traineeship Intercampus Competition at the college’s Newtownards Campus.

Bringing together top talent from Newtownards, Downpatrick and Lisburn Campuses, 10 competitors - who first competed within their own campuses - progressed to the intercampus final when they went head-to-head in a highly competitive event designed to showcase the technical ability, precision and problem-solving skills of the electrical trainees.

Following an intense day of practical challenges and assessment, Mark Jamison (24, above centre) from Belfast delivered an outstanding performance to secure first place; Reece Peak Bellerby (18, above left) from Newtownards achieved a close second place; while Abigail Miller (17, above right) from Bangor, took third place. All three winners are from the Newtownards Campus.

Deputy Head of School, Samuel Lyttle, praised both the participants and the success of the inaugural event.   He said, “This is the first year we have run the competition for the Level 2 Traineeship students, and feedback from learners has been extremely positive. The competition provides an excellent opportunity for trainees to challenge themselves, benchmark their skills against their peers, and build confidence in a competitive environment. We hope it will also encourage learners to consider progressing to SkillBuild NI competitions in the future.”

Samuel concluded, “Overall, the competition was a resounding success, highlighting both the high standard of training here at SERC, and the commitment of our learners to develop professional, career-ready skills for the electrical sector.”

SERC and the electrical team would like to thank C.K Tools, who generously sponsored the event by providing prizes for the winning competitors.
