The Awards celebrate the achievements of learners who have gone to exceptional lengths to achieve their learning goals. The ceremony was hosted by TV personality Denise Watson, with NI actor Martin McCann as the guest speaker. Anne-Marie McClure MBE, Chair of OCN, made closing remarks.
Ewa Gillan, 23 and from Belfast, studying the OCN NI Level 4 Award in Social Media and Digital Marketing at SERC, won the FE Learner of the Year category, as well as the Hilary Sloan MBE Learning Endeavour Award.
SERC IT trainee Kenzie Stevenson (18) from Donaghadee won the Traineeship/Apprenticeship Learner of the Year category.
SERC was also highly commended in several categories: Level 2 IT trainee Aaron Connor (17) from Bangor, for Traineeship/Apprenticeship Learner of the Year, SERC Lead Business Skills Manager Stephen McGreevy for Inspiring Tutor / Teacher of the Year, and the SERC Newcastle Families Learning Together Hub for Advancing Learning Through Innovation.
Other finalists from SERC included Professional Chef trainee Dean Mackintosh (23) from Bangor for Traineeship/Apprenticeship Learner of the Year, and two programmes for Advancing Learning Through Innovation – the Be Your Own Boss Course and Culinary Arts School Thrive Programme, demonstrating the breadth of excellence at the college.
