The SERC Downpatrick Campus LRC has undergone a fabulous transformation over the past few months, creating an improved space that better benefits both students and staff.
Since the full opening of the Downpatrick campus LRC in 2010, the long-packed book stacks and large open-plan study area have been the norm. Now, the new multi-purpose layout of the LRC is more attractive and inviting. The previously regimented rows of book bays have been opened out with wider spacing, putting more books on display, and making all subject areas more easily accessible. Study desks have been interspersed among these book stacks, offering the choice of more private study areas. There are also new areas that can accommodate displays of artwork and PBL projects, as well facilitating presentations and LRC talks.
Take the time to explore the new layout and see how the LRC can help you: the space provides specialised resources to enhance the learning of all students and staff. Thousands of books are available for reference and to loan, and knowledgeable staff provide advice and guidance on the use of the ever-expanding collection of eBooks and specialised eResources available online. Stationery sales, laminating, and binding services are also available. The computer areas have plenty of PCs and space for laptops. The Xerox machines allow for black and white or colour printing, photocopying, and scanning, all with LRC staff support available.
For those needing to relax, the LRC also has a ‘Fabulous Fiction Trust Library’, where you can find many good books, and perhaps take one to a book nook to de-stress and read.
The Downpatrick LRC staff would like to thank the Grahams Caretaking team for their hard work with the logistical help and the moving of large units and shelving to make this new and improved space possible.
