SERC Level 2 Traineeship in Beauty Therapy student Lilly Champion (17), from Lisburn, is taking the first steps towards her dream career in the beauty industry.
After completing her GCSEs at Lisnagarvey High School in Lisburn, Lilly wanted to study beauty full-time, having long held an interest in the topic. Her tutors recommended SERC to her, and after doing research online and learning about the beauty courses available at the college’s local Lisburn Campus, Lilly decided SERC would be her next step.
Lilly says the course really suits her: “I enjoy the practical tasks and being able to do my work in my own time at my own pace. So far, I have completed my practical classes in manicures, as well as lash and brows, and I’m currently learning practical and theory on waxing, facial work and make-up, which I’m already starting to love. You also learn a lot about health and safety, pedicure services, and how to effectively communicate with clients. The course is great fun with lots of group activities, and you can get lots of additional qualifications in ear piercing, lash extensions and gel application.
“After my current course I would like to carry on to the level 3 beauty course and then hopefully get qualified in hairdressing as well. I’d love to work in a beauty salon to get some experience on how a salon runs and to build up my clientele. Long-term, I would love to own my own salon.”
Lilly concludes, “I would recommend SERC and my course. It’s a great course to do if you like working with the public. Tutors take their time with each student to make sure everyone is on the same page with the learning material. If you are interested in learning about beauty and all its different aspects, I would definitely think about taking this course.”
