SERC is preparing to host its annual Open Day at their Newcastle Campus on Wednesday 30 May from 10am to 7pm.

The Open Day provides an opportunity for the local community to come and meet the staff and to discuss how best to develop and improve their knowledge, skills, confidence and qualifications by participating in courses at SERC.
Tutors from a range of courses such as Essential Skills, Restart Education, Childcare and many others will be present and able to advise on the best option for each person to best build their own qualifications and to help get that job or promotion they always wanted.
SERC works closely with a wide range of Community Partners and the Open Day will support the theme of ‘Learning for Life’. With the assistance of SERC’s Community Partners the following will be available throughout the day:
- Careers Advice and Financial Assistance Information for courses
- Health checks on ‘The Big Bus’ (by appointment – call Action Cancer on 90803344 and quote HJX-3021)
- Virtual Reality Safety Demonstrations from the NI Fire Service
- ‘Reading Rooms’ – Mobile reading bus for both adults and kids
- Activities run by SureStart
- Build with Bricks – Lego fun!
Speaking about the Open Day, Paul Walsh (SERC Campus Manager) says,
“At SERC we are very keen to talk to those people who maybe didn’t enjoy school or didn’t achieve the qualifications that they could have when they were younger and who would like another chance to reach their full potential. The staff here have lots of experience of helping and supporting people like this to overcome all sorts of challenges and achieve not only valuable qualifications but also greater self-confidence. I know that taking the first step is often the hardest, but I would really encourage people to drop in on Wednesday 30 May.”
