Food lovers are invited to enjoy a new early evening dining experience as South Eastern Regional College (SERC) launches its Thursday Bistro service at the college’s Downpatrick Campus.
The weekly restaurant service will showcase the talent and creativity of the FDQ Level 2 Professional Chef students with front of house service from the Level 2 Hospitality students. Together, they will be offering a choice of high-quality starters, mains and desserts prepared and served in a professional training environment under the guidance of award-winning Chef lecturer, Thomas Turley and Hospitality lecturer, Sinead Scott.
Open to the public, the Thursday Bistro, from 5.00pm – 7.30pm inclusive, will provide guests with the opportunity to enjoy seasonal menus created using quality ingredients, while supporting students as they develop industry-standard culinary and front-of-house skills. Their autumn menu includes dishes such as spiced pumpkin soup, beef lasagne with garlic bread, apple crumble and a cheeseboard.
Chef Thomas Turley said, “The Thursday Bistro gives our students the opportunity to put their skills into practice in a real restaurant environment while producing food to a high standard. Diners can expect freshly prepared dishes, seasonal ingredients and menus that reflect current trends. We are looking forward to welcoming guests and showcasing the fantastic talent and passion our students bring to every service.”
Hospitality Lecturer, Sinead Scott added, “The Thursday Bistro will operate each week during term time at our Downpatrick Campus. We are currently offering an autumn menu at £20 per head for three courses, including tea and coffee, up to 19 November and will change to a festive Christmas menu, at £25 per head, which will be available on 26 November, 3 and 10 December.”
Bookings will be taken on a first come first served basis and can be made by emailing sineadscott@serc.ac.uk who will confirm booking as soon as possible. Diners are asked to vacate the restaurant by 7.45pm to allow students time to make their journey home.
