Creative Media Practice student Harvey Neale (21, Bangor) will have his short film shown in the Queen’s Film Theatre on 24 October, as part of Cinemagic Young Filmmaker 2025.
The Cinemagic Young Filmmaker exhibition showcases the best short film entries every year and produces a series of workshops and master classes with renowned members of the film and TV industry. A prize voucher, a trophy and a certificate will be awarded to the Young Filmmaker of the Year in each category, and winning entries will also be screened during the Cinemagic International Film Festival for Young People in 2026.
Harvey completed his short film, ‘Doll, You’re Smoking...’ as part of his Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Creative Media at SERC. It has been accepted into the Experimental category of the Young Filmmaker exhibition, being shortlisted from more than 700 entries.
Harvey comments, “I am absolutely ecstatic about being selected, I still haven’t fully accepted that my film was picked, but I’m so proud that it was. The film is a cautionary tale of what can happen if you do not listen to yourself and refuse to change your actions, even when you know you need too. I’m really looking forward to seeing it shown on the big cinema screen with everyone who was involved in making it. The project wouldn’t have been possible without my good friend Robbie Clarke, who created the music for this project, and my amazing girlfriend, Roan Kelly, who helped create the sound effects.”
