SERC is delighted to announce two new funded projects, thanks to The James Kane Foundation.

The first project offers two-year scholarships for five SERC students pursuing science or engineering courses at SERC.  Providing £3,000 to each recipient, per annum, the scholarships will be essential in alleviating the students’ financial burdens – to help cover living, travel, and academic expenses - allowing them to focus on their studies and personal growth.

The deadline for applications is 4pm on 14 October 2025Click here for further information.

SERC have also received funding to offer a series of science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM) workshops for individuals in the local area to learn about STEM through engaging simulations and real-life scenarios.

Michael Wilson, Chair of The James Kane Foundation said, "The James Kane Foundation is committed to advancing education, skills, and career opportunities, and are delighted to support this initiative. Last year, the Board agreed a new strategic approach to our future funding commitments, which has come to fruition today with the announcement of exciting projects such as this. We look forward hearing how this work will positively impact young people as they navigate an increasingly complex and rapidly changing employment landscape. We wish them the best of luck."

The James Kane Foundation have agreed to support 22 projects across Northern Ireland with funding, including this one with SERC, following an open grants programme earlier this year. This amounts to three-quarters of a million pounds in direct interventions. The Foundation will soon open a second grants programme.
