This course is intended to be an Applied General qualification for post-16 learners wanting to continue their education through applied learning, and who aim to progress to higher education and ultimately to employment, in the animal sector.

Course Overview

This qualification is equivalent in size to three A Levels and has been designed as a full two-year programme.

In the first year of the programme you will complete a Foundation Diploma (1.5 A-Level equivalent) and will have the opportunity to exit at this stage.

On the successful completion of Year 1 those progressing to year two will top-up to the Extended Diploma.  

The course will give you a wide range of knowledge and skills essential to progress within the animal sector through the study of units directly related.

There is an attendance commitment requirement of 15 hours per week.

There is a requirement to complete 150 hours of work  experience in each year of the course

Ideal If:

If you want to go onto study an animal related subject at a higher level.

It may also meet the requirements for entry level job within the sector such as zookeeper, dog groomer, veterinary nurse or dog handler.

You'll Learn:

 about animal science, animal health, animal handling, safe working, animal nutrition, accommodation and animal welfare and breeding.

You'll Love:

 the practical element of this course including working with small animals and a placement which will increase your experience with animals.

You'll Progress:

You could go on to study an animal related subject at a higher level.

You may also meet the requirements for an entry level job within the sector such as zookeeper, dog groomer, veterinary nurse or dog handler.

You'll Need:

Min 4 GCSEs at Grade C or above, including English, Maths and separate science GCSEs (Min 2 GCSEs),or Double Award Science, or Level 2 Extended Certificate in Applied Science (at Merit grade), or BTEC Level 2 in Animal Care (at Distinction grade). Evidence of up to date Tetanus Injection or a Medical exemption certificate
